Shanti Phunyal
Shanti contributes to the Easy-to-Read group, a team based on an organization of persons with disabilities. The group consists of trained individuals with intellectual disabilities and self-advocates who provide technical support and consulting services to develop and validate easy-to-read documents. In her free time, Shanti enjoys skipping, playing carrom board, chess and football.
“We use water from a well. Sometimes, the water dries up, and we need to fill the reserve tank by buying water from tanker suppliers. […] Persons with disabilities face risks due to floods, landslides, and earthquakes. There is also the risk of deforestation and wildfires. Additionally, there is the risk of violence against women, including issues like good touch versus bad touch and gender-based violence.”
“I learned to take photographs and gained knowledge about climate change. Climate change means unexpected occurrences, such as deforestation. We need to stop deforestation, preserve wildlife, and encourage reforestation.”
