Priti is a human rights defender and a local mediator supporting the survivors of violence. As a woman with a psychosocial disability, she leads a disability network, the only place she feels safe to share her disability identity. She underlines the psychological toll from climate-related disasters and shares how institutional discrimination has forced her to live in unsafe conditions.
“There are many mental impacts caused by climate change. The more I think about it, the more it affects me. […]. When it started to rain, I didn’t think it would be this severe. My roof leaks during rain, so I was placing buckets where it leaked. […] Around four in the morning, I went outside holding a torchlight. It was still raining. I saw that a landslide had taken everything.”
“When heavy rains damaged my roof last year, I couldn't afford proper repairs […]. While others in my community could get loans to strengthen their houses, the bank rejected my application. They never explicitly said it was because of my disability, but I knew that was the real reason.”
